Independent Non-Toxic Living Guidance You Can Trust
What Is the Green Choice Lifestyle?
Green Choice Lifestyle is an independent publication dedicated to making non-toxic living more practical, evidence-based, and accessible. We help consumers make safer, more informed choices about the products they use every day through hands-on product testing, evidence-based research, expert insights, and honest reviews.
Every week, our expert writers test products firsthand, sharing what they love, what they hate, and what’s truly safe for you and your family. We vet and verify materials, ingredients, certifications, available scientific research, and the potential for exposure to chemicals such as PFAS, phthalates, BPA, heavy metals, VOCs, and flame retardants.
But Green Choice Lifestyle isn’t about trying to create a perfectly “toxin-free” life, or making people afraid of everything in their homes. We believe better choices start with better information. Our goal is to help you understand where everyday exposures may come from, which ones are worth paying attention to, and where simple changes can make sense.
Our editorial content also draws on insights from physicians, toxicologists, scientists, environmental health professionals, and other subject-matter experts, helping us bring credible perspectives to complicated questions about product safety and chemical exposure.
Why We Started Green Choice Lifestyle
The products we use every day are far more complicated than they look. PFAS have been used in everything from non-stick cookware and food packaging to waterproof clothing, camping gear, cosmetics, cleaning products, and stain-resistant furniture. The EPA says exposure is so widespread that most people in the United States have been exposed to some PFAS.
Plastics present another enormous, and still evolving, question. An NIH-supported study found an average of approximately 240,000 detectable plastic particles in a single liter of bottled water, around 90% of which were nanoplastics. At the same time, scientists are still working to understand exactly what these exposures mean for human health. And BPA is only one bisphenol; substitutes such as BPS and BPF in BPA-free plastics have raised similar concerns in scientific research, including potential endocrine-disrupting activity.
And then there are endocrine-disrupting chemicals. They can be encountered in plastics, cosmetics, lotions, fragranced products, household chemicals, pesticides, and treated fabrics. These substances can interfere with normal hormone signaling, although the evidence and level of concern vary considerably from chemical to chemical.
That’s why we started Green Choice Lifestyle.
Brands Know Most Shoppers Don’t Have Time to Investigate
Most people simply don’t have hours to investigate every product they bring into their homes. You shouldn’t need to spend your Saturday night reading studies on endocrine disruptors in skincare before choosing a moisturizer.
You shouldn’t have to investigate microplastic and nanoplastic exposure from water bottles, research what happens when plastic baby bottles or microwave steamers are repeatedly heated, compare EMF measurements from space heaters, or email five cookware companies trying to figure out whether their “PFOA-free” coating is actually PTFE/Teflon.
And it doesn’t stop at frying pans. Non-stick coatings can turn up in appliances and products consumers may not immediately think to investigate—griddles, waffle makers, air fryers, rice cookers, and more.
You probably don’t have time to investigate all of that. We do.
For years, we watched consumers receive incomplete answers to surprisingly simple questions.
- “Is your coating PTFE-free?”
- “What is this product actually made from?”
- “Has it been tested for lead?”
- “Does ‘PFAS-free’ include fluoropolymers?”
- “What does ‘non-toxic’ actually mean here?”
Sometimes the answers were clear. Sometimes they required several emails. And sometimes a reassuring marketing claim created more questions than it answered. As sustainability became a selling point, greenwashing came with it. “Eco-friendly.” “Natural.” “Clean.” “BPA-free.” “PFOA-free.” “Non-toxic.” These phrases can sound reassuring, but without context, testing, or meaningful disclosure, they don’t necessarily tell consumers what they actually want to know.
We Research, Test & Compare Non-Toxic Products For You
We dig into materials and ingredients, read the available studies, investigate certifications and safety testing, contact manufacturers, and ask the follow-up questions that don’t always have straightforward answers.
Then, we put the products to the test. Our writers use them in real life, compare them with similar options, document their experience, and look at everything from performance and durability to materials, construction, and potential chemical exposures. Doing that properly takes time and money. Every month, we spend hundreds of dollars purchasing products ourselves and countless hours researching, testing, comparing, photographing, and documenting what we find.
We’ve carried the same aluminum-free deodorant around for seven months to see how it performs through everyday life, travel, heat, and repeated use. We bought and wore 10+ pairs of period underwear for an entire year, comparing comfort, material irritation, leak protection, washing, and long-term durability. We’ve used non-toxic milk frothers over and over (and over) again, making countless coffees to figure out which ones actually produce the texture and consistency needed for good latte art.
We don’t rely on our research alone, either. For topics that require deeper scientific or medical context, we seek out physicians, scientists, toxicologists, researchers, and other qualified experts who can help us understand the science, put emerging research into perspective, and share their professional opinions on the products and exposures we’re investigating.

My Personal Experience
Hi, I’m Konstantina.
I’ve always tried to avoid toxic products, mainly because of my textile dermatitis. But my deeper journey into non-toxic living began in 2014, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and Thrombophilia.
That diagnosis changed everything. I started paying close attention to what I was putting on and around my body. I learned how endocrine disruptors, synthetic fragrances, flame retardants, and other chemical exposures could affect my thyroid, immune system, and overall health.
The deeper I went, the more frustrated I became. The information out there was overwhelming, full of greenwashing, and rarely helpful for someone living on a budget. I wanted answers that were science-backed and truly practical. So I started reading books, scientific journals, and reaching out to doctors, chemists, and environmental health experts.
That research lit a fire in me.
It wasn’t just about my personal health anymore. I wanted to help others navigate the same confusing space. That’s when I decided to formally pursue my education in chemicals, health, and sustainability.
Over the past 7+ years, I’ve personally tested and reviewed hundreds of non-toxic products—from skincare and cleaning supplies to clothing, bedding, and kitchen appliances. I focused on finding safe, budget-conscious options that work. Since then, I’ve led editorial teams for platforms like Sustainably Kind Living, Ecothes, IndieGetup, and The Filtery, creating content that’s grounded in evidence—not fear—and accessible to everyday people.
This year, I also created the 7-Day Non-Toxic Living Challenge, which has been downloaded over 2,000 times. I designed it to help people take simple, science-backed steps toward a healthier home without the stress or perfectionism.

Sofia Mitchellis is a passionate advocate for non-toxic parenting and sustainable living, drawing on her experience as an elementary school teacher and mom of two.
My Personal Experience
Hi, I’m Sofia.
My journey into non-toxic parenting began when my oldest son developed persistent, itchy red rashes as a baby. After seeing multiple doctors and trying countless medications, we finally got a diagnosis: contact dermatitis—a skin condition triggered by irritants or allergens. In his case, it was caused by everyday products like soaps, detergents, and even clothing materials.
That diagnosis was a wake-up call.
I started overhauling everything from our laundry detergent to baby wipes, bath products, and clothing. What began as a stressful moment turned into a mission: to create a home that’s safer, simpler, and more sustainable—not just for my kids, but for our planet.
As a former elementary school teacher and now a mom of two, I understand how overwhelming this lifestyle shift can feel. Since embracing a low-waste, non-toxic lifestyle in 2015, I’ve made it my goal to help other parents take small, meaningful steps that protect their families and reduce environmental impact—without guilt or perfectionism.
I also co-run a local Buy Nothing group, which helps families save money, reduce waste, and build stronger community connections through sharing. I regularly volunteer at neighborhood cleanups and love finding new ways to make sustainability feel practical for everyday families.
My Focus Areas
- Non-toxic baby care and parenting
- Low-waste living and zero-waste swaps
- Family-safe cleaning and home detox
- Sustainable product reviews and DIYs
